THIS WEEKS LIBERTY STORIES:
Last week we door knocked on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and hit over 500 doors those 4 days! We had some encounters with the Establishment… But those were always bookend by conservatives who were happy to see us!
One of my favorite doors that I knocked this week was an elderly gentleman who opened the door as he was putting on his coat. I made a joke about catching him on the way out the door and he responded with “I’m on my way to the polls to early vote!” I said “well, do you have a moment? That’s actually why I’m here!” And I showed him my packet. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper with a bunch of names written on it. He said, “After extensive research, these are the people I feel are best for Idaho.” I nodded and held my breath as he began reading names. With every name he read beginning with the Governor, then Lt. Governor, and Secretary of State and so on, I got more and more excited. Then he got to the legislature… “Tammy Nichols for Senate, Rachel Hazelip for House Seat A…” I interrupted and said, “That’s me! I’m Rachel Hazelip!” He looked up at me, then glanced at my nametag, adjusted his glasses, and with a look of shock said “Well I’ll be damned!” I walked him to his car in the pouring rain and he just kept saying over and over again, “I just can’t believe I got to meet you before voting for you!” I’m glad I got to shake his hand.
Another one of my favorite encounters this week was at RALLY THE VOTE in Meridian last Wednesday. A woman I had never met came over to me and straight away gave me a hug. I was a little surprised, but was happy to hug her. She introduced herself, pulled away, looked me in the eye, and said, “You door knocked my dad last week. My mom passed away a year ago and he’s been having a really hard time with that and the way things are going in the world. But after 10 minutes talking to you, he called me and said, ‘I have hope again.’ Thanks for giving my dad hope.”
Dear Liberty-Lovers,
Happy Monday! The single digits have arrived! We are 8 days out from primaries! My team and I are constantly joking that “t-minus (blank) days until we can get a full night’s sleep again!” But sleep or no, we are soaking in every moment on the trail. Each week is filled with new challenges, new areas of growth, and most of all- new blessings. Last week was one FILLED with blessing. God poured out so much grace, hope, and strength on us as we door knocked, spoke, and attended events. It is humbling to be a part of what God is doing in Idaho.
Last week was a special one for many reasons, but one of the biggest was the National Day of Prayer on May 5th. What a day. Growing up, we participated every year in the National Day of Prayer and the Bible Reading Marathon held at City Hall or the Capitol. I remember nervously walking up to read from my Bible into the microphone when I was a kid and listening to my mom pray over our state and country with lifted hands.
It was special and surreal to walk the Capitol building that I walked as a child at this event and pray over the rooms, halls, and rotunda that I now hope to work in as a legislator. As I walked and prayed this past Thursday, the Lord impressed deeply on my heart that “this battle will be won on the knees.”
That is true for this campaign, our state…and our nation.
God is calling and rising up believers to serve and fight for our children, our state, and our country at every level… Whether that be running for office or playing a ‘background’ role of door knocking, organizing, donating, praying, or spreading the word. God is placing warriors at the local, legislative, and the executive levels to serve and keep Him at the center of this state. One of my favorite things that Lt. Governor McGeachin often says at the end of her speeches is “I believe God will use Idaho to be part of resurrecting the greatness of America.” I agree with her. God is using our state, but that makes us a target.
It makes our state a target and it makes our liberty warriors targets. We have gone through some hard times the past month. Satan has thrown his arsenal at us and many others on multiple fronts; physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental.
But God.
The night before I decided to run back in February, I was spending time with the Lord and I told Him: “okay Father, I’ll do this. Even if I have to do it alone, I’ll do it.” Little did I know that He would bring an army alongside me. I then heard the song Oceans by Hillsong. I remember listening to the bridge that says, “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders…Let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me.” That night I prayed that through this journey, God would lead me into a trust that is without borders.
That was almost three months ago.
Last week, in the midst of chaos, my campaign manager Christina said to me, “this morning I prayed for trust without borders. No matter what the circumstance.” I immediately went back to that night and smiled. Through this journey of campaigning for Idaho, God has taken me far beyond the borders of myself. I always say that in this campaign, “I’m living in my uncomfortable zone.”

But it’s worth it for Idaho.
The week after I decided to run for the House, I was talking to my best friend and he said, “I thought you hated public speaking?” I said “oh I won’t have to do that while campaigning.”
The next week I spoke in front of a crowd of nearly 100 people. And there have been a never-ending stream of events since. One of the hardest and most stress invoking things in the world for me to do- God has asked me to do over and over again. Sometimes multiple times a day.
We laugh at it now. Isn’t that just how God works? He takes a weakness and turns it into strength. Because He’s good. We have HOPE for our state because He’s working and He’s good.
There is revival headed for our nation. I am seeing it each week with a new vigor. But revival starts on our knees. And I was reminded of that this week at our Capitol on the National Day of Prayer.
Revival is starting in our state with ordinary people simply doing what the Lord has asked them to do. I’ve seen it time and time again in this valley with people like Amy Henry, Annette Scott, Rep. Dorothy Moon, Rep. Heather Scott, and Miste Karlfeldt.
At an event I was at a few weeks ago, someone said: “These mamma bears are going to save our state.” That really stuck with me.
This week I spoke at a Bible study/prayer group. After praying a spirit of motherly fire over me, one of the women randomly asked me, “What does your name mean?” I responded that in Hebrew, it means motherly.
I am writing this email on Sunday night- Mother’s Day. This morning I received one of the most moving messages I have received during this campaign. From someone completely unrelated to either afore mentioned events, the message read: “Happy Mother’s Day Rachel! I know you do not have children yet, but I have loved watching you interact with children and participate in this fight for children in our state. God is moving you into a position of mothering this state back to liberty. Keep fighting like the momma bear God created you to be!”

I am dedicated to this country and our beautiful state. It is a privilege to fight for what is right and be a part of this army of liberty lovers and mamma bears who are laying it all on the line. One of my favorite quotes has always been Winston Churchill’s “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.” Tonight I echo Churchill’s sentiment with: I offer open hands, willingness, and a fire to fight.
Thanks for standing with me, freedom fighters!
Let’s Keep Idaho, Idahome!
