Issue #4

These kids were fired up by what they were hearing…and they can’t even vote yet! These kids were ready to fight… and they’re in high school.

I loved their fire. That’s where it starts. That’s how we take back our schools, our fair elections, our culture, and our government.

Dear Liberty-Lovers,

T-minus 36 days to primaries and we are kicking the dust up at the capitol! We’ve spent lots of time the past week getting our first mailers out for absentee ballot voters and getting out in the community at farmers markets and meet and greets!

A lot is happening in our state right now… As the elections draw nearer, legislators are being held accountable for their votes during the last few legislative sessions and many are having a hard time explaining away the choices they made on behalf of We the People.

My last email dealt with the lack of protection we are seeing in our state for our most precious group of citizens- our children. Events of last week have reignited a deeper passion in my soul for this subject, so today’s Rachel Report will be focused on youngsters and education as well.

I have continued to receive dozens of questions the past several days from concerned parents about their children’s education. The big ones I continually hear circling around groups of parents are discussions surrounding school curriculum transparency, school choice, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Today, I want to talk a little bit about Social Emotional Learning.

On Saturday of this week I spoke with a concerned mother who has just moved here from Washington State. She shared with me about the homework her children are bringing home and some of the questions her child’s teachers are asking her. She identified these teaching materials and strategies as Social Emotional Learning. She told me: “We left everything behind in Washington- our friends, family, jobs, and the house we owned to move to Idaho. It’s better than Washington but you guys are only a few years behind us! I mean, what are they teaching my daughter?!” I looked her in the eye and said: “Marxism.”

Critical Race Theory takes the form of SEL in our state. Sometimes it’s called “behavior health” or “mental health.” The U.S Department of Education defines SEL as:the processes through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”

This week, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting two of my political and academic hero’s, Dr. James Lindsay and Trevor Loudon. These two men are leading the charge against what Dr. Lindsay calls “the Marxist Revolution in America.” This is being translated into Idaho schools through SEL right now.

Many school districts in Idaho are now allocating more time and effort teaching these types of emotional health curriculums than actual academic content. What this really is, is a form of Marxism where schools are legally asking our children a series of questions and collecting data about family history, personality, preferences, behavior, and emotional state all without direct parental consent and by educators who are not trained or certified to be mentally treating the psychological and emotional state of a child. Educators are being given short, 6ish-week classes on how to identify and teach children with strong behavioral or emotional issues in a way that only certified professionals are ordinarily legally allowed to within a controlled and safe environment. This is not only diminishing parental rights and a violation of privacy; it is steeped in Marxist theory of child development for the sake of abolishing class struggle.

The woman I met Saturday who had just moved from a state engulfed in liberal ideology, was telling me that she is seeing the same patterns here in our schools. So often the biggest enemy in our fight is ourselves. We think “that’s not happening here” or “that won’t happen here.”

It is happening here.

We have work to do Idaho. Let’s do it together.

In 1962, prayer was first removed from public education, Bible reading followed in 1963, and civics credit requirements began to be lifted in the mid to late 1960s. Today, forty two of our fifty states do not require civics for high school graduation. As a nation, we have traded teaching civics for teaching Marxism. Dr. Kari Ingraham stated that: “Today, leaders holding high government offices at the federal and state levels are quickly exploiting an underlying principle: The less educated our citizens are regarding civics, the more pliable they are to the acceptance of radical philosophies and agenda, and the more government power can grow. The end result will be a loss of the American Dream — life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.”

In a letter to Uriah Forrest in 1789, Thomas Jefferson wrote that it was of utmost importance to “Educate and inform the whole mass of the people…[for] They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.”

We are watching Marxism seep into our schools in this country and this state. We need to stop it and we have the power to do so. Capitalism isn’t lost. Freedom isn’t lost. America isn’t lost. Idaho isn’t lost. Are there deeply rooted problems in our system? Yes. But I see a wave headed for this state… And it is RED.

Let’s stand together, win this election, and make some conservative change in this beautiful state of ours.

Let’s keep Idaho, Idahome!

For Idaho,
